Welcome to the JVal Valuer Community — a professional, supportive space for jewellery valuers at every stage, from student to fellow. Membership carries a few conditions that keep it useful, safe and confidential.
1. Peer discussion, not formal advice
This is a place to share knowledge and experience between professionals. Nothing posted here is formal advice, and responsibility for any valuation always remains with the signing valuer. Where a matter has legal or financial consequences, take appropriate professional or legal advice before acting on anything you read here.
2. Never any client information
No client names, addresses, contact details, reference numbers or identifiable photographs — ever. Discuss the jewellery and the method, never the person. Posts breaching this will be removed.
3. Confidential and members-only
Everything shared here is confidential and intended solely for members of this community, and may contain privileged professional information. Treat every post as private to the group.
4. Don’t forward or disclose outside the community
As a condition of membership, you may not forward, copy, publish or disclose any post — or information within it — to anyone outside the community, nor act on it in dealings with a third party, without the author’s written permission (except where legally required).
5. Be professional, always
Treat other members with courtesy and professionalism. Don’t make it personal, and don’t take responses personally. Anyone behaving unprofessionally, for whatever reason, may be removed from the community.
6. Views are the author’s own
Opinions expressed are those of the individual member and do not necessarily represent JVal, Marmalade Fine Jewellery, or any professional body.
7. Moderation
Moderators may edit, move or remove posts to keep the space useful and safe, and these guidelines may evolve as the community grows.
